FAA Pride Treasurer

Brock Shetley (he/him)

LAX Air Traffic Control Specialist

FAA Treasurer Brock Shetley

Brock Shetley is an Air Traffic Control Specialist (ATCS) at Los Angeles International Airport. He became interested in aviation at an early age while watching his father serve as a helicopter pilot for the Oklahoma City Police Department. Brock attended the University of Oklahoma, where he completed several Air Traffic Management courses and earned a Bachelor's Degree in Administrative Leadership.

In 2014, Brock completed initial air traffic control training (ATC) at the Mike Monroney Aeronautical Center and selected Palo Alto Airport (PAO) Tower in Palo Alto, CA, as his first ATCS assignment. While at PAO, Brock learned the fundamentals of ATC and became intrigued by the hustle and bustle of the local general aviation community. The thought of "taking flight" lured Brock to pursue flying lessons, and in March 2017, Brock earned his Private Pilot certificate.

During Brock's tenure at PAO Tower, he joined the National Air Traffic Controller's Association (NATCA) and served the role of both secretary and treasurer, followed by vice president. Brock also joined the FAA GLOBE in the summer of 2017.

In January 2018, Brock requested a transfer to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). Upon starting at LAX, Brock completed a rigorous 18-month training program that consisted of both simulated and on-the-job training handling live air traffic. Brock completed training in August 2019 and has since been working as a fully rated air traffic controller. LAX continuously ranks as one of the top-five busiest airports in the world.

In the spring of 2019, Brock locally organized LAX's order for a national t-shirt campaign whose proceeds would go to The Trevor Project—a 24-hour, confidential suicide hotline for LGBTQ youth. The 2019 national campaign raised more than $6,000 to benefit The Trevor Project directly.

Brock is an active member of the National Gay Pilots Association. When Brock is not on the air traffic radio, he enjoys spending time at Disneyland and traveling with his partner, Kyle.
